Rep. Mikie Sherrill Proposes Third Impeachment of Trump While Running for New Jersey Governor

Rep. Mikie Sherrill, a Democrat from New Jersey, has proposed the idea of impeaching former President Donald Trump for a third time. This suggestion comes as she campaigns to become the next governor of New Jersey. Sherrill made her comments during a recent event at the Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Company in Manchester Township, where she spoke about the challenges facing the country and the importance of taking a stand.

Sherrill, who has been in Congress since 2018, has a history of voting for both of Trump’s impeachments during his first term. At the event, she reflected on her past actions and the potential need for further impeachment, humorously referring to it as a "trifecta" after a supporter encouraged her to consider it again.

She expressed concerns about Trump’s influence and his intentions, particularly regarding the upcoming 2026 midterms. Sherrill emphasized the need for Democrats to unite and mobilize against Trump’s agenda, stating that he has shown no intention of stepping back from the political stage.

In the same week, Rep. Shri Thanedar from Michigan filed articles of impeachment against Trump. Thanedar cited several reasons, including accusations of undermining the justice system and violating individual rights. This has added fuel to the ongoing discussions about Trump’s actions and their implications.

Sherrill’s comments come as she faces competition in the Democratic primary for governor. Other candidates include Rep. Josh Gottheimer, Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop, and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, among others. Current Governor Phil Murphy is unable to run again due to term limits. The primary election is set for June 10.

As Sherrill campaigns, she aims to rally support among Democrats, highlighting the importance of challenging Trump’s influence and protecting democratic values. Her remarks reflect a broader concern among some lawmakers about the future of the party and the political landscape in New Jersey and beyond.
