Trump Accuses Zelenskyy of Stalling Russia Ceasefire and Extending the Killing Field

U.S. President Donald Trump has placed the blame on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for the ongoing conflict with Russia, suggesting that a ceasefire could be achieved if Zelenskyy were willing to cede Crimea to Russia. Trump expressed his views in a lengthy post on Truth Social, arguing that Zelenskyy could end the war by formally recognizing Crimea as part of Russia.

Trump questioned why Ukraine did not fight for Crimea when it was annexed by Russia in 2014, stating that it was taken without resistance. He emphasized that while no one expects Zelenskyy to officially recognize Crimea as Russian territory, he should consider the proposal if he truly wants peace.

The Crimean peninsula was annexed by Russian forces during a period of upheaval in Ukraine. This event occurred in February 2014, after then-President Viktor Yanukovych chose to strengthen ties with Russia instead of moving closer to the European Union. The annexation has since given Russia strategic advantages, including access to critical maritime routes and energy resources.

Zelenskyy has firmly rejected any notion of ceding territory to Russia. He stated, “There is nothing to talk about — it is our land, the land of the Ukrainian people.” He reiterated his stance on the need to prioritize stopping the violence.

High-level discussions involving U.S. and European officials were recently downgraded after key U.S. diplomats canceled their participation. The U.S. State Department cited logistical issues for their withdrawal, which surprised British officials. Meanwhile, Trump’s envoy, Keith Kellogg, is attending the talks in London.

In a related development, U.S. Vice President JD Vance warned that the U.S. might abandon peace talks if no agreement is reached soon. He mentioned that the U.S. has made clear proposals to both Russia and Ukraine, indicating that some territorial concessions would likely be necessary for a settlement.

As the situation unfolds, American diplomats are also focusing on negotiations in Moscow, where discussions with Russian leaders are ongoing. The urgency to find a resolution to the conflict continues to grow, with the possibility of significant changes on the horizon.
