A French bulldog named Havoc has been reunited with his owner after going missing for nearly two years. Havoc disappeared from his home in North Hollywood on January 13, 2023, sparking a massive search effort led by his owner, Yasmine Hazeart. To her, Havoc was more than just a pet; he was like a child. Hazeart’s determination to find him turned into a full-time job, as she posted updates on social media and enlisted the help of fellow dog lovers.
Hazeart’s search was intense. She hired cadaver dog trainers to trace Havoc’s scent and reached out to shelters across California and neighboring states. She spent countless hours visiting local neighborhoods and even homeless encampments, hoping to find any sign of her beloved dog. The emotional toll was heavy; Hazeart struggled with anxiety and depression, losing her appetite and sleep. She was even hospitalized due to the stress.
During this challenging time, Hazeart created a community around her search, dubbed "Havoc’s army." This group of online supporters helped keep her spirits up and shared tips about missing French bulldogs. Despite their efforts, leads often ended in disappointment.
Almost 800 days after his disappearance, Havoc was spotted outside a home in Apple Valley, about 100 miles from his original home. Windie Petersen, the homeowner, noticed the dog and posted about him on Facebook. LeRae DeRasmo, a member of Havoc’s army in Las Vegas, recognized him from Hazeart’s posts and contacted her with the news.
Petersen, wanting to confirm the dog’s identity, took him to the local animal shelter where staff were already familiar with Havoc’s story. They scanned his microchip, and the number matched. Hazeart was overjoyed when she received the news, screaming and crying in disbelief at the moment.
When Hazeart arrived to pick up Havoc, the reunion was emotional. As soon as he heard her voice, Havoc leaped into her arms. The Petersen family, who had cared for him during his time away, shared in the joy of the moment.
The exact circumstances of how Havoc ended up so far from home remain unclear. Whether he traveled there on his own or was picked up by someone is still a mystery. Regardless, Hazeart is grateful for the support she received throughout her search and is relieved to finally have her furry friend back home. She feels a sense of healing and is ready to rebuild her life after the long ordeal.
