Video Shows Failed Burglary and Botched Getaway

A group of burglars had a rough night after their attempted heist at a restaurant in Upland went wrong. The incident took place early Thursday morning around 3:30 a.m. at Corky’s Homestyle Kitchen and Bakery, located near 7th Street and Mountain Avenue.

According to the police, the burglars were caught in the act while trying to break into the restaurant. Video footage shows them smashing a glass patio door with a sledgehammer. They then struggled to move a safe inside the restaurant as police sirens echoed outside, signaling the arrival of law enforcement.

Upland police quickly responded to a burglary alarm at the restaurant. They spotted the suspects fleeing in a black Dodge Challenger. The chase began, but the burglars made a desperate move by hitting a police vehicle in their attempt to escape.

The getaway driver, an adult male from Southgate who was already on probation for burglary, drove down a dead-end street, getting stuck between two parked cars. This ended their escape attempt. While several suspects ran off on foot, two were arrested, including the driver and a 16-year-old from Los Angeles. Two others managed to get away.

The stolen Dodge Challenger had a license plate linked to another vehicle involved in different burglaries, indicating a pattern of criminal activity. Authorities continue to investigate the incident, but management at Corky’s has chosen not to comment on the burglary.

This failed heist serves as a reminder of the risks involved in criminal activities and how quickly things can go wrong.
