Video Evidence Challenges Israeli Narrative on Gaza Medic Deaths

The situation in Gaza has taken a tragic turn following an incident involving ambulances and emergency workers. On March 23, a group of paramedics was reportedly attacked while responding to emergencies in the area. This has raised serious concerns and calls for accountability.

A new video has surfaced that shows marked ambulances with their lights flashing, stopping on the side of the road. The footage, which was presented to the United Nations Security Council, shows emergency workers stepping out of the vehicles, clearly identifiable as paramedics. However, the scene quickly turns chaotic as gunfire erupts, and the person filming is believed to be one of the paramedics who later died.

The video was discovered on the phone of the deceased paramedic after his body was found buried along with others in a shallow grave. In total, eight paramedics, six members of the Gaza Civil Defence, and one UN employee were recovered from the site, which took several days for international organizations to access safely.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have responded to the incident, stating that all claims and documentation surrounding it will be thoroughly investigated. They have maintained that their actions were justified, claiming that militants from Hamas and Islamic Jihad were present during the incident. However, they have not provided evidence to support these claims.

Surviving paramedics have voiced their concerns, emphasizing that their ambulances were clearly marked and that they were not involved with any militant groups. Paramedic Munther Abed stated, "All crews are civilian. Our main duty is to offer ambulance services and save people’s lives." He insisted that their lights were on, signaling their identity as emergency responders.

Dr. Younis Al-Khatib, President of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS), expressed his grief over the loss of life. He recounted the last words of one paramedic before being shot, saying, "Forgive me mum, I just wanted to help people." He has called for an independent investigation into what he described as an "atrocious crime."

As the situation unfolds, one paramedic remains unaccounted for, adding to the urgency for answers and accountability in this heartbreaking incident. The international community watches closely as the IDF promises to look into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
