Venezuela Welcomes First U.S. Deportee Flight in Weeks

The Trump administration has taken a significant step in its immigration policy by sending a flight to Venezuela carrying deportees. This flight, which took off on Sunday, marks the first of its kind since the Venezuelan government agreed to accept deportees from the U.S. just a day earlier.

Diosdado Cabello, who serves as Venezuela’s interior minister, welcomed the arrival of the flight at an airport near Caracas on Sunday night. The Venezuelan government has dubbed this initiative "Return to the Homeland." According to the Department of Homeland Security, the flight carried 199 individuals back to Venezuela.

The Trump administration has been focused on getting the Venezuelan government to accept these deportation flights. Over the past few years, a large number of Venezuelans have migrated to the U.S. due to the ongoing crisis in their home country. During his campaign, President Trump promised to enforce strict immigration policies, including mass deportations.

However, sending deportees back to Venezuela has been challenging due to the limited diplomatic relations between the U.S. and the Venezuelan government led by Nicolás Maduro. This has made it difficult for the U.S. to conduct regular deportation flights in the past.

With this new agreement, the Trump administration hopes to resume deportations to Venezuela, addressing the growing number of Venezuelans in the U.S. and fulfilling its immigration enforcement goals.
