A shooting at the Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology in Inglewood left two women critically injured on Friday afternoon. The incident unfolded around 3:39 p.m. when the Inglewood Police Department received reports of gunfire at the college located on Aviation Boulevard.

Emergency responders rushed the victims, both employees of the college, to a trauma center in Long Beach. Their conditions are serious, and details about their specific roles at the college have not been disclosed.

Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts Jr. confirmed that a male suspect was arrested in Koreatown around 5:45 p.m. The Los Angeles Police Department apprehended him after the Inglewood police shared information about the suspect’s vehicle and license plate with other agencies.

The suspect, whose identity has not yet been revealed, is believed to have been a former employee of the college. Reports indicate he was dressed in clothing resembling a security guard’s uniform and was armed with a rifle during the attack. Mayor Butts emphasized that the motive behind the shooting was connected to the suspect’s employment at the college, stating it was not a random act of violence.

A shell casing from a 9mm firearm was found on campus, further indicating the seriousness of the incident. Police conducted a thorough search of the college, room by room, but no additional victims were located. The campus was cleared by 5:15 p.m.

Students were instructed to shelter in place for about 90 minutes during the incident. One student described the atmosphere as terrifying, noting that everyone had to stay calm while waiting for the police to address the situation.

The Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology, located near Los Angeles International Airport, specializes in aviation maintenance education. The college offers programs leading to diplomas and associate degrees for students preparing for Federal Aviation Administration certification exams.
