Ukraine’s Economy Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced the signing of an important memorandum with the U.S. on an online call. The document was signed separately by Svyrydenko and U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. This agreement is expected to bring significant benefits to both countries, according to Svyrydenko, who expressed optimism about the progress made so far.
Bessent noted that while some details are still being finalized, the deal largely reflects what was previously discussed. Former President Donald Trump hinted at this deal during a press conference with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, mentioning a minerals agreement that is set to be signed soon.
In Ukraine, MP Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, who chairs the parliamentary committee on EU Integration, emphasized that the Ukrainian Parliament will have the final say on the deal. She expressed hope that any agreement reached would serve the best interests of Ukraine and its people.
This signing comes at a crucial time, as a 30-day moratorium on attacks against Ukrainian energy infrastructure, ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin, is about to end. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Putin has not issued new orders regarding a ceasefire.
On the diplomatic front, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha met with U.S. officials, including Senator Marco Rubio and Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, in Paris. They discussed ways to achieve a fair and lasting peace, which could include a full ceasefire, a multinational peacekeeping force, and security guarantees for Ukraine.
