Trump Claims Iran Has Received U.S. Proposal Regarding Its Nuclear Program

U.S. President Donald Trump recently revealed that Iran has received a proposal from the United States regarding its nuclear program. This marks the first time Trump has confirmed the existence of such a proposal amid ongoing negotiations between U.S. officials and Iranian representatives.

Trump made this announcement while traveling on Air Force One, concluding a trip to the United Arab Emirates, which was part of a broader tour that included stops in Saudi Arabia and Qatar. He emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that Iran needs to act quickly or face serious consequences.

The negotiations have reached an “expert” level, indicating that both sides are discussing specific details of a potential agreement. However, a significant hurdle remains: Iran’s uranium enrichment activities. Tehran insists on its right to enrich uranium, while the Trump administration demands that Iran halt all enrichment efforts.

During the trip, Trump consistently stressed that Iran must not be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon. U.S. intelligence agencies have assessed that Iran is not actively pursuing a nuclear bomb, although its program is advancing toward the capability to weaponize nuclear material.

A reporter inquired if the U.S. had formally handed over a proposal to Iran, to which Trump replied affirmatively. However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi later stated that Iran had not yet received any proposal from the Americans. He criticized the mixed messages coming from the Trump administration, suggesting that they reflect either confusion or a deliberate negotiation tactic.

Negotiations between U.S. and Iranian officials have taken place in Oman and Rome, facilitated by Oman’s Foreign Minister, Badr al-Busaidi. The discussions focus on limiting Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for alleviating some of the severe economic sanctions imposed by the U.S. over the years.

Trump has warned that if a deal is not reached, he may resort to military action against Iran’s nuclear facilities. Iranian officials have responded by indicating that they could pursue nuclear weapons if their uranium enrichment continues unchecked. The situation is further complicated by Israel’s threats to take unilateral action against Iran’s nuclear sites, especially in light of rising tensions in the region due to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
