Trump Appoints Michael George DeSombre as US Representative for East Asia and the Pacific

President Donald Trump has announced his nomination of Michael George DeSombre as the next U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and the Pacific. This decision comes as part of a broader strategy to strengthen U.S. relations in the region.

Trump made the announcement on Tuesday via Truth Social, highlighting DeSombre’s previous experience as the ambassador to Thailand during his first term. DeSombre is currently a partner at the law firm Sullivan Cromwell, where he specializes in mergers and acquisitions in Asia. He holds a law degree from Harvard and degrees in quantitative economics and East Asian Studies from Stanford University.

In addition to DeSombre’s nomination, Trump also appointed Paolo Zampolli as the special envoy for global partnerships. Zampolli has extensive experience with the United Nations and various international initiatives, which Trump believes will benefit U.S. interests globally.

The president further revealed that he has chosen Bill Bazzi, the mayor of Dearborn Heights, Michigan, as the U.S. ambassador to Tunisia. Bazzi is a decorated U.S. Marine who served for 21 years and has a background in engineering from his time at Boeing and Ford Motor Company. Trump praised Bazzi for his hard work during the 2024 Presidential Election, contributing to what he called a "Historic Victory."

Lastly, Dr. Anji Sinha has been nominated as the U.S. ambassador to Singapore. Trump described her as a respected entrepreneur and emphasized the importance of the U.S.-Singapore relationship.

These nominations reflect Trump’s ongoing commitment to fill key positions within his administration and strengthen diplomatic ties in critical regions around the world.
