Trump Announces Plans to Speak with Putin to Advocate for a Truce in Ukraine

Former President Donald Trump is gearing up for a significant conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Scheduled for Tuesday, the discussion aims to finalize details of a potential deal to end the ongoing war in Ukraine. Trump shared on his Truth Social platform that many aspects of the agreement have been settled, but there are still critical points to address.

In his post, Trump expressed concern over the heavy toll the conflict has taken. He noted that thousands of young soldiers are dying each week, estimating about 2,500 casualties from both sides. He emphasized the urgency of stopping the violence, stating, "It must end NOW." Trump expressed eagerness for the upcoming call with Putin, hoping it will lead to a resolution.

This anticipated dialogue comes as the Trump administration has been actively working on a ceasefire agreement for nearly three years. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko mentioned that the Kremlin is seeking strong guarantees that Ukraine will not join NATO as part of the negotiations.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt indicated that the U.S. is closer than ever to achieving peace, as they await a response from Russia regarding a proposed 30-day ceasefire. Ukraine has already accepted the deal, contingent upon Russia’s commitment to the terms.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been vocal about the need for tougher sanctions against Russia. He accused Putin of prolonging the peace talks to extend the war. Zelenskyy stated, "It is clear to everyone… that it is Putin who continues to drag out this war." He urged world leaders to apply pressure on Moscow to end the conflict.

As the situation develops, the focus remains on whether the upcoming conversation between Trump and Putin will yield a breakthrough in the quest for peace in Ukraine.
