Trump Announces Plans to Speak with Putin to Advocate for a Ceasefire in Ukraine

President Donald Trump is set to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday as part of efforts to finalize a deal aimed at ending the ongoing war in Ukraine. This announcement comes as Trump highlighted the urgent need for peace, noting that thousands of soldiers are dying each week in the conflict.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump mentioned that while many aspects of a "Final Agreement" have been discussed, significant work remains to be done. He emphasized the grim toll of the war, stating, "Each week brings 2,500 soldier deaths, from both sides, and it must end NOW." This call for peace reflects a growing concern over the humanitarian crisis resulting from the prolonged conflict.

The Trump administration has been actively working on a peace deal for the past three years. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko has indicated that Russia seeks strong guarantees that Ukraine will not join NATO as part of any agreement. Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the U.S. is closer to achieving peace than ever before, as they await Russia’s response to a proposed 30-day ceasefire.

Ukraine’s acceptance of the ceasefire proposal came after discussions with U.S. officials in Saudi Arabia, contingent on Russia’s commitment to the plan. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed frustration, accusing Putin of dragging out negotiations. Zelenskyy called for tougher sanctions against Russia and urged world leaders to pressure Moscow to end the conflict.

He stated, "It’s clear to everyone… that it is Putin who continues to drag out this war." Zelenskyy believes that without external pressure, Russia may not agree to the ceasefire proposal.

As the situation develops, the world watches closely to see if this latest round of talks will lead to a meaningful resolution to the conflict that has claimed countless lives and caused widespread suffering.
