Trump Allies Launch Effort to Secure Congressional Approval for DOGE

A new bill introduced by Rep. Cory Mills, a Republican from Florida, aims to solidify the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) into federal law. This initiative is backed by several of former President Donald Trump’s allies in the House. The goal is to protect DOGE and its efforts to streamline government operations from potential legal challenges over the next year and a half.

Mills explained that the legislation would create a reporting structure that allows DOGE’s activities with the Cabinet to be communicated to Congress. He emphasized that this is about being responsible with taxpayer money. The bill builds on a previous executive order from Trump, which directed Cabinet members to work with DOGE on various efficiency plans.

The proposed legislation would enhance the authority of Elon Musk and Amy Gleason, the Acting Administrator of DOGE, giving them more power to implement cuts aimed at reducing waste in the federal government. Mills highlighted that Musk has developed an algorithm that constantly analyzes government programs to identify inefficiencies.

The bill has garnered support from other members of the House, including Aaron Bean, Byron Donalds, Barry Moore, and Michael Rulli, all of whom are also Republicans. If passed, this legislation could shield DOGE from opposition, particularly from Democrats who may seek to limit its access to government data.

Mills and his colleagues believe that this move is crucial for modernizing government operations and ensuring that taxpayer funds are used effectively.
