Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had an impressive night, scoring 38 points and leading the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 118-103 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals. This win, which took place at the Thunder’s home court, puts Oklahoma City up 2-0 in the best-of-seven series as they prepare for Game 3 on Saturday in Minneapolis.
Gilgeous-Alexander, fresh off being named the NBA Most Valuable Player just days earlier, showcased his skills with eight assists and three steals, while committing only one turnover. His performance tied his career playoff high. Jalen Williams also made a significant contribution, adding 26 points, and Chet Holmgren chipped in with 22 points.
The Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards led his team with 32 points, but struggled with his three-point shooting, making just one of nine attempts. He also recorded nine rebounds and six assists. Julius Randle, who had a strong performance in Game 1, managed only six points in this game, hitting just two of 11 shots.
Oklahoma City built a substantial lead, going up by as many as 24 points late in the third quarter. Although Minnesota fought back to close the gap to 10 points with just over three minutes left, the Thunder consistently responded to keep the Timberwolves at bay.
The Thunder’s defense was key, as they pressured Minnesota, leading to a six-minute stretch in the third quarter where the Timberwolves failed to make a field goal. Despite a challenging first half where Oklahoma City shot poorly from three-point range, they managed to take an eight-point lead into halftime, thanks in part to Gilgeous-Alexander’s late scoring run.
As the series moves to Minneapolis, the Thunder look to maintain their momentum, while the Timberwolves will aim to bounce back and get back into the series.
