Thousands of people gathered in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday to celebrate International Women’s Day. The event aimed to highlight the ongoing struggle for women’s rights in the United States and around the world.
Emiliana Guereca, the founder of the Women’s March Foundation, organized the march. She emphasized that women still do not have equal rights, stating, “We have lost rights instead of gaining rights.” Many marchers expressed their concerns about recent actions by the Trump administration, including cuts to healthcare, limitations on voting access, and reductions in diversity and inclusion initiatives.
The Women’s March in Los Angeles began in 2017, following Donald Trump’s inauguration. That year, an estimated 750,000 people participated, making it one of the largest protests in the city since a major immigration march in 2006. This year, Guereca estimated that around 15,000 people joined the march, with many being young and attending for the first time.
“Our fight is for those generations,” Guereca said, highlighting the importance of encouraging younger activists to continue the struggle for equality. The event served not just as a commemoration but also as a call to action for those who believe in the need for ongoing advocacy for women’s rights.
