Los Angeles police are actively searching for a large group of teenagers on bicycles who assaulted a man in broad daylight during a confrontation over a traffic incident. The violent encounter occurred on Saturday around 5 p.m. at the intersection of San Vicente Boulevard and Carrillo Drive, situated in the Carthay neighborhood, east of Beverly Hills.
Witnesses reported that the altercation began when the group of approximately 20 to 30 youths, aged between 16 and 18, collided with the man’s vehicle. Following the incident, the man exited his car to address the teenagers, leading to a physical confrontation. Video footage from the scene captured the moment when the outnumbered man was kicked and punched by the group, eventually falling to the ground as the assault continued. The attackers fled south on Carrillo Drive after some witnesses intervened in an attempt to stop the violence.
Emergency responders treated the victim for minor injuries at the scene, but he declined to be transported to a hospital. This incident marks at least the third reported case of bike-riding teenagers engaging in violent confrontations with drivers in Los Angeles in recent months.
In a similar incident earlier this year, a group of teenagers vandalized a vehicle at Wilshire Boulevard and La Brea Avenue after a driver allegedly drove too closely to them. Another incident in August involved a driver being attacked at a red light after attempting to maneuver around a group of cyclists.
Los Angeles Councilwoman Katy Yaroslavsky expressed her concern over the recent attack, stating her relief that the victim is recovering. She emphasized the importance of accountability for acts of violence, regardless of the circumstances, and urged anyone with information regarding the incident to reach out to the police. The LAPD’s Wilshire Division can be contacted at (213) 922-8229 or through their 24-hour hotline at (877) LAPD-24-7 on weekends and after business hours.
Yaroslavsky’s comments reflect a growing concern in the community about the safety of both cyclists and drivers, highlighting the need for dialogue and solutions to prevent such violent encounters in the future.
