Actor Steve Carell is stepping up to help high school seniors in Southern California who have been impacted by recent wildfires. In a heartfelt gesture, Carell announced that he is partnering with Alice’s Kids charity to provide free prom tickets for students from six high schools in Pasadena.
In an Instagram video, Carell shared that the charity will cover the cost of prom tickets, which usually range from $100 to $150. He emphasized that students who have already purchased their tickets will be reimbursed, making it a great opportunity for them to enjoy their prom night without financial stress.
The wildfires in the Los Angeles area have caused significant destruction, destroying over 16,000 homes and businesses and tragically claiming at least 29 lives. Schools in the affected areas also suffered damage, leaving many students and families in turmoil as they sought alternative educational arrangements.
Ron Fitzsimmons, the executive director of Alice’s Kids, expressed the charity’s mission to help students celebrate despite the challenges they face. He stated, “Going to prom should be a celebration, and we wanted to help make the big night just a little easier for seniors whose lives have been turned upside down by the wildfires.”
The charity plans to donate around $175,000 to ensure that over 800 students can attend this important milestone in their lives. The announcement was met with excitement, as seen in a video from John Muir High School, where students cheered during a surprise assembly.
Among the schools benefiting from this initiative is Aveson Charter School, which has faced significant losses, including a burned-down campus for younger students and damage to facilities for older students.
Carell is also involved in other efforts to support fire relief, having recently participated in a charity hockey tournament called “Skate for LA Strong.” As he wrapped up his announcement, Carell encouraged students to have fun and enjoy their prom, reminding them, “This is Steve Carell.”
