A brand of shampoo has been recalled due to potential health risks. Henkel, the company behind Tec Italy Totale Shampoo, announced on Tuesday that it is pulling the product from shelves because of possible contamination with the bacteria Klebsiella oxytoca. This decision affects over 1,000 units of the shampoo.
The recall was initiated after microbiological tests indicated the presence of the bacteria. Henkel’s Mexico unit voluntarily recalled the product and is now warning consumers. The shampoo was primarily distributed in New York and California, but it may have reached other states as well.
The recalled shampoo comes in a green plastic bottle, holding 33.81 fluid ounces, and is marked with the lot number 1G27542266 and the UPC code 7501438375850. Consumers are advised to stop using the product immediately and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Exposure to Klebsiella oxytoca can lead to various health issues, including infections of the eyes, nose, and skin. Those with weakened immune systems may experience additional complications. Fortunately, Henkel has reported no injuries or illnesses linked to the shampoo thus far.
Henkel is conducting this recall with the oversight of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. They are committed to ensuring consumer safety and minimizing inconvenience during this process. If anyone experiences symptoms or has health concerns related to this product, they should consult a physician right away.
