Secretary of State Marco Rubio Announces Revocation of Visas for 300 Foreign Students

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has announced that around 300 foreign students have had their visas revoked as part of President Donald Trump’s immigration policies. This revelation came during a press conference held in Guyana, where Rubio addressed the ongoing efforts to identify and remove individuals deemed a threat to national security.

Rubio mentioned that the number of revoked visas could actually be higher than 300. He expressed his commitment to this process, stating, “Every time I find one of these lunatics, I take away their visa.” He added that he hopes to see the numbers increase as the search for individuals who pose a risk continues. “I hope at some point we run out because we have gotten rid of all of them,” he said.

The policy behind these visa revocations stems from an executive order issued by President Trump on January 20. This order aims to protect U.S. citizens from individuals who might commit terrorist acts or threaten national security.

Rubio’s comments came in response to questions about Rumeysa Ozturk, a Tufts University doctoral student from Turkey. Ozturk recently had her student visa revoked after she co-wrote an op-ed criticizing Tufts’ response to protests. A video of her being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) near the university campus has circulated online, drawing attention to her situation.

The ongoing visa revocation efforts reflect a broader strategy to enhance national security and ensure that foreign nationals in the U.S. do not engage in harmful activities. As this policy unfolds, it continues to raise questions about its impact on foreign students and academic freedom in the United States.
