Scores Rescued from Fire in Argentine Skyscraper

A significant fire broke out in a luxury residential skyscraper in Buenos Aires, Argentina, leading to the evacuation of over 100 residents on February 11, 2025. The blaze, which affected multiple floors of the 50-story building located in the upscale Puerto Madero neighborhood, prompted an immediate response from emergency services.

According to reports, the fire spread up to the 15th floor, causing smoke to fill the building and resulting in broken glass falling from the windows. Firefighter Christian Benitez confirmed that all residents were safely evacuated and out of danger. Alberto Crescenti, the head of Buenos Aires emergency services, noted that the quick response and evacuation helped prevent any serious injuries.

Despite the chaos, 40 individuals required treatment for smoke inhalation, with several being admitted to local hospitals for further care. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and officials are working to determine how the incident began.

Witnesses described the scene as alarming, with one resident, Ornella Gril, recounting how she heard the fire alarm and quickly made her way downstairs. Another resident, former professional footballer Mariano Pavone, shared his experience of seeing smoke and evacuating with his son and dog, expressing relief that his apartment remained unharmed.

The incident highlights the importance of fire safety measures in high-rise buildings, especially in densely populated urban areas. As investigations continue, residents are left to assess the impact of the fire on their homes and community.
