Rep. John James, a Republican from Michigan, has officially announced his candidacy for governor. He believes Michigan has suffered for too long under poor leadership and is ready to bring change. In a heartfelt post on X, formerly known as Twitter, James explained that his decision to run came after much thought, prayer, and discussions with his family.
James expressed concern about the state’s direction, saying it has been affected by “radical, out-of-touch policies.” He pointed out that Michigan has lost over 300,000 manufacturing jobs since NAFTA, which he called “unacceptable.” He emphasized that the state needs strong, competent leadership to address these issues.
“I’m running for Governor of the great state of Michigan,” James stated, underscoring his commitment to improving the lives of Michiganders. He believes that the people of Michigan are strong, but they need leadership that understands their needs and challenges.
In his announcement, James highlighted his background in business and military service. He has run an automotive business in Michigan and served in combat for the United States. He promised not to leave anyone behind and vowed to bring common sense back to the state government.
James is currently serving in Congress, representing Michigan’s 10th District, a position he won in November 2022. He narrowly defeated his Democratic opponent, Carl Marlinga, with just under 49% of the vote.
As he prepares for his campaign, James faces competition from Michigan State Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt, who is also vying for the governor’s seat in 2026. Governor Gretchen Whitmer is term-limited and cannot run again.
James is eager to rally support and bring a new vision to Michigan. He is determined to work alongside President Trump, who he says has been a steadfast ally. Together, they aim to restore prosperity and sanity to the state.
