Protesters in Vermont recently targeted Vice-President JD Vance after a heated exchange with Ukrainian President Zelensky at the White House. The demonstrators lined a road in Waitsfield, holding up pro-Ukraine signs as Vance and his family were expected to pass through on their way to go skiing. Reports indicated that the family had to change their plans and move to an undisclosed location due to the protests.
The clash between Vance and Zelensky, which also involved President Trump, occurred in the Oval Office and escalated tensions. Following the incident, demonstrations supporting Ukraine took place in various cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Boston.
Prior to the clash with Zelensky, a protest against the Trump-Vance administration had been organized in Waitsfield. The protest, organized by Indivisible Mad River Valley, saw increased participation following the White House confrontation.
Vermont’s governor, Phil Scott, urged respect towards the Vance family during their visit, emphasizing the importance of hospitality despite differing opinions. Vance, who has not publicly addressed the protests, was accompanied by counter-protesters supporting Trump and Vance in Waitsfield.
In addition to the Vermont events, demonstrators gathered outside Tesla stores in the US to protest Elon Musk’s efforts to reduce government spending. Meanwhile, Zelensky traveled to the UK for discussions with Prime Minister Keir Starmer and other European leaders to address the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and regional security concerns.
The incident at the White House sparked reactions from various quarters, with Starmer emphasizing the need to bridge differences and work towards peace. The diplomatic discussions following the clash aimed to find a resolution to the conflict and ensure stability in the region.
