Police believe body discovered in Oxnard belongs to missing 13-year-old from the Valley.

Law enforcement officials in Oxnard have discovered a body believed to be that of a 13-year-old boy who went missing after a trip to Lancaster. The boy, identified as Oscar Omar Hernandez, was reported missing by his family on Sunday. He had not returned home to the San Fernando Valley after visiting an acquaintance.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) took over the investigation on Tuesday. Detectives gathered information that led them to an area in Oxnard, prompting a search. Alongside members of the FBI, the LAPD conducted a foot search and found the body near North Harbor Boulevard and West Gonzalez Road, close to McGrath State Beach and the Santa Clara River.

While the body matches the description of Hernandez, authorities have not yet confirmed the identity. The cause of death is still under investigation. LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton noted that Hernandez is believed to be from the Foothill Division, which serves several communities in the San Fernando Valley, including Pacoima and Lake View Terrace.

Detectives are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death and are seeking anyone with information that could assist in the case. This tragic incident is still developing, and further updates are expected as the investigation unfolds.
