An officer-involved shooting occurred on Easter Sunday in National Harbor, Maryland, following a violent incident earlier that morning. According to police, around 8:20 a.m., officers responded to a call about a stabbing. When they arrived, they found a man and a woman suffering from serious stab wounds.
Prince George’s County Police Chief Malik Aziz stated that the suspect, who was known to the victims, fled the scene after also setting fire to the apartment where the stabbing took place. Less than two hours later, officers located the suspect at National Harbor, armed with a knife and approaching an officer.
In response to the threat, two officers fired their weapons, striking the suspect an unknown number of times. He was taken to a nearby hospital but later died from his injuries. Fortunately, no officers were hurt during the incident.
The two stabbing victims remain in critical but stable condition, and their identities have not been released. Investigators have not confirmed the exact relationship between the victims and the suspect. The Maryland Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division is now overseeing the case.
As the investigation continues, community members are left shaken by the violence that unfolded during what is typically a festive holiday.
