Nova Scotia Tourist Discovered Deceased on Beach in the Dominican Republic

A tragic incident occurred in the Dominican Republic when a Canadian tourist, Dorian Christian MacDonald, was found dead on a beach. The 38-year-old from Nova Scotia was reported missing after he went for a solo walk along the shore in Puerto Plata around 2 a.m. on June 20. His body was discovered just a few hours later, at approximately 4:15 a.m.

MacDonald was vacationing alone at a hotel when the accident happened. According to friends, his death has been described as a drowning accident. Tara Mackenzie, a close friend, has since launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs of transporting his remains back to Canada. She estimates that the expenses for flights, international paperwork, and funeral arrangements could range between $10,000 and $20,000.

Mackenzie expressed her deep sorrow, stating, “The world feels a lot quieter and a whole lot less vibrant just knowing he’s no longer a part of it.” As of now, the GoFundMe has raised about $38,000, nearing its goal of $40,000.

Global Affairs Canada has acknowledged MacDonald’s death and is in touch with local authorities to assist his family during this difficult time. Due to privacy laws, they are unable to provide further details.

MacDonald’s friends remember him as a warm and loving person who freely shared hugs and compliments. Mackenzie reflected on his joyful spirit, saying he celebrated life’s moments, big and small.

This incident follows a similar case involving another tourist, Sudiksha Konanki, who went missing in the Dominican Republic earlier this year. Authorities believe she drowned after being swept away by waves while in the ocean.

The loss of MacDonald has left a significant impact on those who knew him, and his friends are working to bring him home for a proper farewell.
