Over 212,000 pounds of liquid egg products are being recalled due to potential contamination with sodium hypochlorite, a cleaning solution. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the recall on Friday, urging consumers not to eat these products.
The affected items were produced by Cargill Kitchen Solutions in Lake Odessa, Michigan, on March 12 and 13, 2025. They have the number "G1804" printed on their cartons. The recall affects products shipped to various states, including Ohio, Texas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, and Iowa.
FSIS received a tip regarding the possible contamination, prompting an investigation. Fortunately, they concluded that the risk to health is low, designating the recall as a Class III, which is considered to have a marginal risk. So far, there have been no reports of illnesses linked to these products.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled liquid egg products are advised not to consume them. Instead, they should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase. The specific products involved in the recall include several varieties of Egg Beaters and Bob Evans liquid egg substitutes, all with specific use-by dates in 2025 and 2026.
Cargill Kitchen Solutions has stated that they are working closely with the USDA on this voluntary recall. They emphasize that the products do not pose a significant health risk if consumed, but caution remains a priority.
If you have these products at home, check your refrigerator or freezer, and if you find any, follow the recall instructions. For any health concerns, it’s best to contact a healthcare provider.
