Kevin O’Leary, known as "Mr. Wonderful," recently shared his optimistic views on the future of cryptocurrency in the United States. Speaking on "My View with Lara Trump," he emphasized that the industry is entering a "new phase" under the Trump administration. O’Leary noted that past issues in the crypto world, often referred to as the "cowboy era," have led to increased government scrutiny, but he believes this is changing.
O’Leary explained that with new regulations expected, cryptocurrencies could integrate more with America’s financial institutions. He believes that crypto will eventually become a significant part of the economy, potentially recognized as the 12th sector alongside others.
Trump made headlines last year by promoting the idea of the U.S. as the "crypto capital of the planet." Since taking office in January, he has taken steps to support this vision, including signing an executive order to establish a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve. This reserve will reportedly be funded by Bitcoin acquired through asset forfeiture, meaning it won’t cost taxpayers anything.
The executive order directs a full accounting of the government’s digital asset holdings, which are estimated to include around 200,000 Bitcoin. O’Leary highlighted that this move signals a commitment from the administration to embrace and lead in the crypto sector, a stark contrast to the previous administration’s approach, which he described as punitive and unwelcoming.
Pubkey co-owner Thomas Pacchia also expressed relief at the change in leadership, noting that the previous administration’s stance on crypto was detrimental. He believes that Trump’s return to the Oval Office represents a significant shift for the industry.
