This week, Los Angeles is in for a significant temperature shift, with residents bracing for some of the hottest weather of 2025. On Monday, the thermometer is expected to soar into the 90s, marking a potential record-breaking day for the area.
In downtown Los Angeles, temperatures are predicted to range from 85 to 90 degrees. The valleys, including San Gabriel, San Fernando, and Santa Clarita, could see even higher readings, with Woodland Hills potentially hitting 95 degrees. Meteorologist Robbie Munroe from the National Weather Service in Oxnard noted that this could break the previous record for March 24 in Woodland Hills, which stands at 89 degrees. Burbank is also forecasted to reach 90 degrees, just shy of its daily record.
Following this early-week heatwave, a sharp drop in temperature is expected. By Thursday, temperatures could plummet by 20 degrees, settling around 70 degrees. This drastic change will be accompanied by hot and windy conditions in the desert and mountain regions of Los Angeles County throughout the week.
The sudden rise in temperature is attributed to a high-pressure system and an offshore flow that brings warm air from the mountains to the coast. Residents along Southern California’s coastline should prepare for high surf conditions, with waves expected to reach four to seven feet due to strong winds and storms in the area.
Looking ahead, there is a possibility of light rain in Los Angeles between March 30 and April 2, as a storm system moves south along the Central Coast. Munroe mentioned that it is uncertain how far south this system will travel.
As Angelenos experience this weather roller coaster, the community is reminded to stay hydrated and be mindful of the heat, especially during the peak temperatures.
