Man allegedly threw injured cat BooBoo into dumpster in O.C., authorities report

A man has been arrested in connection with a shocking incident in Orange County, where he allegedly tossed an injured cat into a dumpster. The cat, named BooBoo, was discovered after being left in the dumpster for about 15 hours, just minutes before it was scheduled to be emptied.

The troubling event unfolded in Laguna Hills on a Monday evening. Surveillance footage released by the city showed the suspect taking the cat out of a trash bag and throwing it into the dumpster. After the video went public, a woman recognized the cat as her pet and identified the man as her roommate.

Authorities quickly responded. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department arrested the man on suspicion of felony animal cruelty. As of Thursday, BooBoo is receiving treatment for extensive injuries at a veterinary hospital.

Mission Viejo Animal Services Director Brynn Lavison expressed gratitude for the public’s concern for BooBoo. Many people have offered donations for her care and inquired about adopting her. Lavison emphasized the community’s love for animals and their disdain for any form of animal abuse.

BooBoo was found near the 25000 block of Cabot Road. Animal Services took her to a hospital for evaluation and treatment after receiving reports about the injured cat. Officials are committed to ensuring her health and reuniting her with her owner. The suspect’s name has not yet been released, but the case has drawn significant attention and outrage from the local community.
