LAPD Footage Captures Shooting Incident Involving Author Jillian Lauren in Eagle Rock Backyard

Los Angeles police released video footage on Friday showing the shooting of Jillian Lauren, a 51-year-old author and wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner. The incident occurred this month when Lauren, reportedly believing she was under threat, pointed a gun at officers who were responding to a hit-and-run investigation nearby.

The footage, compiled from officers’ body cameras and surveillance videos, captures the confusion leading up to the shooting. Officers were in the Eagle Rock area tracking three suspects involved in a hit-and-run when they spotted Lauren in her backyard, armed with a handgun.

According to police, Lauren was seen walking around her yard, appearing alert and on edge. Officers shouted at her to drop the weapon for several minutes, but their commands were likely drowned out by a helicopter hovering above. One officer noted that Lauren had raised her gun, prompting a swift response from the police.

Audio from a neighbor’s 911 call revealed that Lauren believed she was being shot at by the suspects. The neighbor reported seeing three men and mentioned that the police were looking for them.

Moments later, after Lauren allegedly chambered a round, the officers fired multiple shots, hitting her in the arm. Following the shooting, Lauren retreated into her home. She remained inside for about an hour before coming out to face the police, who then took her into custody. She was treated for her injuries at a local hospital.

Lauren has been charged with attempted murder of a peace officer and was released on bail. The case is currently under review by the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office, which will decide on any formal charges.

This incident has sparked discussions about the use of firearms for self-defense and the actions of law enforcement in high-pressure situations. Lauren is expected to appear in court later this month. She is known for her memoir "Some Girls: My Life in a Harem" and her recent work on serial killer Samuel Little.
