LAPD Footage Captures Shooting Incident Involving Author Jillian Lauren in Eagle Rock Backyard

Los Angeles police recently released video footage from a shooting involving Jillian Lauren, an author and the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner. This incident took place earlier this month when Lauren, 51, mistook police officers for armed suspects and fired a gun at them.

The footage, compiled from body cameras worn by officers and nearby surveillance cameras, shows the chaotic moments leading up to the shooting. Officers were in the area to assist the California Highway Patrol in tracking down three suspects involved in a hit-and-run incident. They encountered Lauren in her backyard in Eagle Rock, where she was seen holding a gun.

In the video, officers can be heard repeatedly instructing Lauren to drop her weapon. However, the sound of a helicopter overhead may have drowned out their voices. The situation escalated when Lauren appeared to chamber a round and raise her gun. Minutes later, police fired several shots in her direction.

Audio from a 911 call made by a neighbor revealed that Lauren believed she was being shot at by the suspects. The neighbor reported to the operator that there were three men and that the police were looking for them. After the shooting, Lauren was seen turning back toward her home and later requested a neighbor to call 911, claiming she had been shot at.

Following the incident, Lauren was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to her arm. She was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of a peace officer but later posted bail. It remains unclear if the case has been forwarded to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office for potential charges.

The shooting has sparked debate regarding Lauren’s actions and whether she was justified in defending her property. The hit-and-run incident that prompted police involvement occurred near the 134 Freeway and Figueroa Street. Security footage showed the suspects attempting to hide in backyards as officers pursued them.

Lauren’s celebrity status has brought additional attention to the case. She is known for her memoir, "Some Girls: My Life in a Harem," which details her experiences in the harem of Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei. In 2023, she published another book titled "Behold the Monster," based on her interviews with serial killer Samuel Little.

As the investigation continues, Lauren is expected to appear in court later this month. The incident raises important questions about the use of firearms, perceptions of threat, and police interactions in tense situations.
