L.A. County Sheriff’s Deputy Fires at Man in West Hollywood

A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy shot a man on Saturday evening in West Hollywood, leading to a significant police response and street closures in the area. The incident occurred around 5:57 p.m. at the busy intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and La Brea Avenue, close to the West Hollywood Gateway mall.

The man was taken to a hospital and is currently in stable condition, according to the sheriff’s department. Deputy Veronica Fantom described the event as an “officer-involved shooting” but did not provide further details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting. She confirmed that all officers involved were accounted for and that there was no ongoing threat to the community.

Witnesses reported seeing a man on a stretcher being loaded into an ambulance, appearing alert and vocal as he was transported. The area, which includes popular stores like Target and Best Buy, was heavily monitored by law enforcement, with helicopters circling overhead and police tape blocking off parts of the mall’s plaza.

The Sheriff’s Department urged the public to avoid the area due to the ongoing investigation. They assured that multiple streets were closed but emphasized that there was no immediate danger to the public. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500.
