Images: Getty Villa Welcomes Visitors Again

The Getty Villa in Pacific Palisades has reopened its doors to the public for the first time since it closed in January due to the Palisades fire. After nearly six months, the museum is welcoming visitors back with a new exhibit titled “The Kingdom of Pylos.” This exhibit showcases over 230 pieces of Messenian art and artifacts, many of which are making their U.S. debut.

The Villa had been shut since January 7, when the fire impacted the surrounding area, although the museum itself remained unharmed. Crews worked diligently to restore the grounds, which suffered damage during the blaze. The reopening was met with excitement, as many anticipated the chance to explore the museum again.

Visitors can now enjoy the Villa from Friday to Monday, with operating hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The new exhibit, focusing on the ancient Greek site of Pylos, offers a glimpse into the rich history and artistry of that era. The reopening is not just a return to normalcy for the museum, but also a chance for the community to come together and celebrate the resilience of their cultural heritage.
