House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries expressed serious concerns about a proposed spending bill during an appearance on CNN’s "State of the Union." He warned that if the bill were to pass, it could have devastating effects on many Americans, claiming that "people will literally die."
Jeffries highlighted that the bill, which he referred to as "Trump’s one big ugly bill," narrowly made it through the House of Representatives. He intends to work closely with Senate Democrats to inform the public about the potential harm this legislation could cause. According to him, the bill would strip health care from around 14 million people, while raising costs for many others. He fears that if it becomes law, it could lead to hospital closures and nursing home shutdowns.
In addition to health care issues, Jeffries pointed out that the bill would implement the largest cuts to nutritional assistance in U.S. history. He emphasized that this would negatively impact children, seniors, and veterans by taking food away from them. He accused the bill’s supporters of prioritizing tax breaks for billionaires, like Elon Musk, while increasing the national debt by over $5 trillion, leaving everyday Americans to foot the bill.
Jeffries’ comments reflect a growing concern among Democrats about the implications of the spending bill, as they aim to rally public opposition against it.
