Graffiti Covers Kobe and Gianna Bryant Mural in Downtown Los Angeles

The beloved mural of Kobe and Gianna Bryant in downtown Los Angeles is set to be restored after it was vandalized. The mural, located at 14th and Main streets, was defaced with graffiti just a day before news of the restoration efforts began.

Luka Doncic, a star player for the Los Angeles Lakers, stepped in to help by donating $5,000 through his foundation. He expressed his admiration for Kobe and Gianna, stating that they mean a lot to the city and to him personally. “I’m happy to do anything to help make sure he and his daughter are honored,” Doncic said through a representative.

The mural, known as “Mambas Forever,” features Kobe in his Lakers uniform, lovingly holding his daughter Gianna, who is depicted with a basketball. The vibrant artwork had been untouched since its completion in 2020, until the recent vandalism. The artist, Louie “Sloe” Motions, plans to use the funds raised to apply a protective coat over the mural to prevent further damage.

Motions shared his shock at Doncic’s generous donation and expressed gratitude, stating, “I’d like to say thank you to Luka and I’m proud he is a Laker now and representing Los Angeles.” He emphasized the importance of coming together as a community to support and honor the legacy of Kobe and Gianna.

The vandalism was highlighted on social media by the account @Kobemural, which shared before-and-after photos of the mural. The post aimed to raise awareness among fans who appreciate the tribute to the basketball legends. The mural had been a cherished piece of art for many in Los Angeles, a city that continues to mourn the loss of Kobe, Gianna, and seven others who tragically died in a helicopter crash in January 2020.

In light of the recent events, a GoFundMe account has been set up to support the mural’s restoration. Fans and community members are encouraged to contribute to help preserve this important tribute to two figures who have left a lasting impact on the city and its basketball culture.
