Franklin Graham, the president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan’s Purse, met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Berlin on Wednesday. This meeting took place amid ongoing tensions and fragile peace negotiations involving Ukraine, Russia, and the United States.
Graham shared that he prayed for all three leaders: Zelensky, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and former U.S. President Donald Trump. He emphasized the need for wisdom and guidance for these leaders to find a path to peace. "The complications in Ukraine and Russia are very difficult, and I believe only God can solve this," he stated.
Zelensky expressed his gratitude for Graham’s prayers and for the support provided by Samaritan’s Purse, which has been active in humanitarian efforts since the 1970s. He thanked the American people and President Trump for their assistance during this challenging time.
Graham, 72, was in Berlin to lead the European Congress on Evangelism, an event that gathered over a thousand pastors and faith leaders from 55 countries. This congress, last held in 2000, aims to revive the evangelical spirit and address issues like Christian persecution and the perception of Europe as a "post-Christian" society.
During a press conference, Graham highlighted the war in Ukraine as a significant concern for European Christians. He called for prayer for peace and urged Christians to be bold in sharing their faith. He noted that thousands of lives have been lost in the conflict, and the need for a resolution is urgent.
Graham concluded his meeting with Zelensky by praying for all three leaders, asking for peace and understanding. He noted that Zelensky was in Berlin seeking military support from Germany, a move that could escalate tensions with Russia. Zelensky also expressed the importance of Ukraine’s participation in the upcoming NATO summit, framing it as vital for the country’s future.
As the situation continues to unfold, Graham’s meeting with Zelensky serves as a reminder of the ongoing humanitarian and political challenges faced by Ukraine amidst the conflict.
