A Florida man has been arrested following a road rage incident that escalated into gunfire. The event took place on March 30 in a Publix parking lot located in Osceola County. Jesus Manuel Perez Jr. is facing serious charges, including attempted murder and discharging a firearm in public.
According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Department, the conflict began at a traffic light when Perez aggressively honked his horn at another driver. After the light turned green, he attempted to maneuver around the victim’s car but was blocked by other vehicles. The victim then drove into the Publix parking lot, with Perez in pursuit.
Once inside the parking lot, Perez allegedly blocked the victim’s vehicle, exited his car, and opened fire. The victim returned fire, and Perez fled the scene. Fortunately, neither individual was injured during the exchange.
Sheriff Marcos Lopez described the situation as frightening, emphasizing the unpredictability of gunfire in public places. He noted the risks involved in such confrontations and the potential for chaos when firearms are involved.
Authorities confirmed that the victim will not face charges, as he was acting in self-defense. Perez, however, remains in custody at the Polk County Jail without bail. In addition to the attempted murder charge, he faces several other charges related to drug possession.
This incident highlights the dangers of road rage and the severe consequences that can arise from seemingly minor disputes on the road.
