A home in Pacoima, Los Angeles, became the site of a terrifying explosion on Thursday morning, leaving one man in critical condition. The explosion occurred around 9:01 a.m. in the 13500 block of W. Remington Street. Firefighters arrived to find light smoke billowing from the damaged house.
Initial reports suggest that fireworks may have caused the explosion. The resident, a man in his 40s, was the only person inside when the blast occurred. He suffered burns and was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
As emergency responders worked, they learned that four dogs were also in the home at the time of the explosion. Fortunately, two of the dogs were safely rescued by 10:30 a.m. A third dog was found safe inside the building, while the fate of the fourth dog remains unknown.
The Los Angeles Fire Department dispatched its hazmat and arson units, along with the police bomb squad, to investigate the incident further. City building and safety officials were also called to assess the structure’s integrity.
The explosion resulted in part of the house collapsing, creating a scene of chaos as rescuers searched for any remaining pets and ensured the area was safe. The community is now left to grapple with the aftermath of this shocking event.
