The FBI has arrested a Milwaukee judge for allegedly helping an illegal immigrant avoid arrest. Judge Hannah Dugan, who serves on the Milwaukee County Circuit Court, was taken into custody on charges of obstruction. This incident reportedly occurred during an immigration enforcement operation last week.
According to FBI Director Kash Patel, Dugan is accused of intentionally directing federal agents away from Eduardo Flores Ruiz, an illegal alien who was in her courtroom for a scheduling hearing on April 18. Patel stated that Dugan misled the agents, allowing Ruiz to escape.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that ICE officials arrived at the courthouse on the same day Ruiz was present. Dugan allegedly guided Ruiz and his attorney to a side door, leading them down a private hallway to evade the authorities.
Judge Dugan, 65, has a history of working with legal aid organizations and progressive groups focused on helping vulnerable populations. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1987 and was elected to her current position in 2016 after defeating an incumbent judge.
This arrest comes amid ongoing tensions surrounding immigration enforcement in the U.S. Many politicians and judges face pressure from various sides regarding how to handle illegal immigration. The situation highlights the complex relationship between the judicial system and immigration laws, especially as enforcement efforts ramp up under the current administration.
