A man lost his life in a car accident on Sunday morning in Pacoima when he made a left turn directly in front of a fire engine. The incident occurred around 10:45 a.m. at the intersection of San Fernando Road and Terra Bella Street. The fire engine, from the Los Angeles City Fire Department, was responding to an emergency call and was traveling southbound when the Toyota Corolla turned in front of it.
According to Sergeant Jodie McGee from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division, the collision was sudden and tragic. The driver of the Corolla was taken to Holy Cross Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Authorities are currently working to identify the victim, as he was not carrying any identification at the time of the accident. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
The firefighters on the engine were understandably shaken by the incident but fortunately did not sustain any injuries. The LAPD is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash to better understand how it happened. This tragic event serves as a reminder of the dangers present at busy intersections, especially when emergency vehicles are involved.
