Dealership Loses Nearly $200K Worth of Cars to Theft

Thieves targeted a dealership in Thomaston, Georgia, making off with two high-value Ford Mustang cars worth nearly $200,000. The incident occurred overnight on Friday at Southern Ford of Thomaston, where a Ford Mustang GT500 Heritage and a blue Ford Mustang GT500 were stolen.

General Manager Chip Richardson expressed his dismay at the theft, highlighting the rarity of the Heritage model, which is one of fewer than a thousand ever produced and comes with certification. The theft was not a random act; according to Thomaston Police Chief Mike Richardson, the culprits appeared to have a specific target in mind, as they disabled the dealership’s security cameras and accessed the keys to multiple vehicles on the lot.

"This was not just a joyride," Chief Richardson stated. "They knew what they were looking for, and I don’t believe these cars will be dismantled. They are likely headed elsewhere." The police are actively investigating the case and are appealing to the public for assistance. A reward of $1,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.

The theft has left the small community of Thomaston in shock, as the dealership is a staple in the area and such crimes are uncommon. "It’s incredibly disappointing for us," Richardson said, reflecting on the impact of the event on the dealership and the community. Investigators encourage anyone with information to contact the Thomaston Police Department as they work to resolve this high-profile case.
