Cory Bowman, Half-Brother of JD Vance, Enters Cincinnati Mayors Race

Cory Bowman, the half-brother of Vice President JD Vance, has officially announced his candidacy for the mayoral race in Cincinnati, Ohio, set for 2025. In a post on X (formerly Twitter) dated February 4, Bowman expressed his vision for the city, emphasizing a desire to offer residents a choice that fosters "prosperity, growth, and joy."

Bowman, a registered Republican and pastor at The River Church in Cincinnati, revealed that he aims to gather between 500 and 1,000 signatures from registered voters to qualify for the ballot. He acknowledged receiving unsolicited advice from various individuals warning him to "get ready" for scrutiny, although he expressed uncertainty about who might be targeting him.

In his announcement, Bowman reflected on his recent return from a significant inauguration event, which included his brother’s swearing-in ceremony. He stated that witnessing this moment inspired him to pursue a role in local government as a means of contributing positively to the community he cherishes. "The city where my family and I live and love cannot fall behind in the critical years ahead," he asserted.

Bowman articulated his commitment to ensuring that Cincinnati residents have the opportunity to shape their future, asserting that complacency should not be an option. He aims to rejuvenate downtown Cincinnati and encourage growth within the city. "A population should never be complacent with how things are. They should have the choice to decide their own future," he said.

In an interview with the Cincinnati Enquirer, Bowman, who co-owns Kings Arms Coffee, described his brother as an "incredible role model." While he noted that he does not speak for JD Vance, he expressed pride in his brother’s achievements and the inspiration they provide him.

Historically, the last Republican to run for mayor of Cincinnati was former Congressman Brad Wenstrup in 2009, who faced a Democratic opponent and ultimately lost. Bowman’s entry into the race marks a significant moment for the local Republican Party as they seek to regain influence in a city that has leaned Democratic in recent years. As the campaign unfolds, Bowman’s message of choice and community engagement will be pivotal in shaping his candidacy and appealing to Cincinnati voters.
