Colombian Attacks Leave at Least Seven Dead, According to Local Media

Violence has erupted in Colombia, with officials linking it to illegal armed groups reacting to recent military and police operations. These operations have significantly disrupted the activities and finances of these groups. The situation has led to a surge in attacks, particularly in the city of Cali, which the mayor has compared to the violent days of 1989 when drug cartels ruled the streets.

This wave of violence comes just days after an assassination attempt on presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay in Bogotá. He was speaking to supporters when the attack occurred. A 15-year-old boy was arrested at the scene. The Attorney General’s office reported that the teenager has denied the charges against him, which include attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm. A judge has since ordered his detention.

The recent events highlight the ongoing struggle Colombia faces with drug-related violence and the challenges posed by armed groups as the government intensifies its crackdown on illegal activities.
