Colombia Commits to Sharing Migrant Data with US Following Open Discussions with Kristi Noem

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem recently made headlines during her visit to a notorious prison in El Salvador. This visit is part of her efforts to address illegal immigration and strengthen ties with Central American nations. On Wednesday, Noem toured the Terrorism Confinement Center, which houses numerous illegal immigrants deported by the United States.

The visit comes as Noem signed an agreement with Colombian officials to share biometric data on migrants, a move aimed at improving cooperation in managing migration. Noem described her discussions with Colombian Foreign Minister Laura Sarabia as open and friendly, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in tackling illegal immigration to the U.S.

During her tour of the Salvadoran prison, Noem met with the country’s Minister of Justice, Héctor Gustavo Villatoro, and President Nayib Bukele. She came face-to-face with alleged gang members from Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan gang known for its violent activities. Video footage from the tour showed Noem addressing the inmates directly, warning them against illegal entry into the United States. She stated, "First of all, do not come to our country illegally: You will be removed, and you will be prosecuted."

Noem’s visit highlights the ongoing crackdown on gang violence in El Salvador, with President Bukele’s administration taking a hard stance against criminal organizations. The Terrorism Confinement Center, which opened in 2023, can hold up to 40,000 inmates, with reports indicating overcrowded conditions. Prisoners are confined without outdoor access or visitation rights, and the facility lacks educational or rehabilitation programs.

Noem’s message was clear: illegal aliens still in the U.S. must leave or face consequences. She underscored the seriousness of the situation, stating that those who do not comply could end up in the very prison she visited. Her remarks reflect a broader strategy to deter illegal immigration and reinforce the U.S. government’s stance on border security.

As the Biden administration continues to grapple with immigration issues, Noem’s actions signal a commitment to addressing these challenges through international cooperation and strong messaging. The agreement with Colombia and the visit to El Salvador serve as key components of this approach.
