Charles Barkley outlines a roadmap for Johni Broome to become Auburn basketballs all-time greatest player.

The Auburn men’s basketball team is making headlines as they advance in the NCAA Division I tournament. The top-seeded Tigers started their journey by defeating Alabama State in the opening round. They followed that up with a strong performance against Creighton, securing a spot in the Sweet 16.

Auburn’s success has drawn attention from former star player Charles Barkley. Barkley, who is currently providing commentary for the tournament, expressed his belief that Johni Broome, one of the team’s standout players, has the potential to become the greatest player in Auburn’s history. He stated that if Broome can lead the Tigers to their first national championship, he would surpass Barkley in the school’s lore.

Barkley praised Broome’s contributions to the team and the program under Coach Bruce Pearl. He highlighted the significance of winning a national title, saying, “If he can finish the journey, I would say he’s the greatest player in Auburn basketball history.” Barkley also noted that Auburn’s previous appearance in the 2019 Final Four remains the program’s best season to date.

Despite some struggles late in the regular season, where the Tigers dropped games to Texas A&M and Alabama, Barkley remains optimistic about their tournament run. He pointed out that Auburn faced tough competition, losing to ranked teams rather than lesser opponents.

Looking ahead, Auburn is set to face the fifth-seeded Michigan Wolverines in the Sweet 16 on March 28 in Atlanta. Fans are hopeful that the Tigers can continue their winning streak and make a deep run in the tournament.
