A brush fire broke out in Burbank on Tuesday afternoon, leading to evacuations in nearby neighborhoods. The fire, named the Bethany fire, was reported just before 3:30 p.m. near Bethany Road and Amherst Drive, according to the Burbank Fire Department.
By around 4:30 p.m., the blaze had spread to approximately 10 acres. In response, officials ordered evacuations for homes located above Bel Aire Drive and west of Walnut Avenue, including the DeBell Golf Club. Residents were urged to leave as a precaution while firefighters worked to contain the flames.
Fortunately, by 6 p.m., fire crews announced that they had halted the fire’s forward progress and lifted all evacuation orders. Fire officials stated that hoses were deployed around the perimeter to keep the fire contained. Crews planned to monitor the area and continue cleanup efforts throughout the night.
As of now, authorities have not disclosed any details about what may have caused the fire. Residents are relieved that the situation has stabilized, but the incident serves as a reminder of the fire risks that can arise in the region, especially during dry conditions.
