A tragic incident in Georgia has led to serious charges against a 21-year-old illegal immigrant from Honduras. David Hector Rivas-Sagastume is accused of murdering Camilia Williams, a 52-year-old mother of five, in a random attack. This unsettling event took place earlier this month, and it has raised significant concerns about immigration policies and public safety.
Rivas-Sagastume was arrested by Cobb County police after Williams’ body was found in a wooded area. She had been reported missing, and authorities believe she was assaulted and killed sometime between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. on March 12. According to police, Rivas-Sagastume allegedly placed Williams in a chokehold, causing her to lose consciousness. He then reportedly admitted to putting his full weight on her neck, which led to her death.
This case is particularly troubling because Rivas-Sagastume had already been under a deportation order since July 2023. He had entered the United States illegally in March 2021 and had been paroled into the country by the previous administration. A judge ordered his removal, but he remained in the U.S. until this recent incident.
In addition to murder, Rivas-Sagastume now faces several other charges, including aggravated assault, rape, and necrophilia. These allegations have shocked the community and prompted discussions about the effectiveness of current immigration policies.
Williams’ family shared that she had felt uneasy in the days leading up to her death, believing someone was following her. However, authorities have not established any connection between her and Rivas-Sagastume.
As the case unfolds, it highlights the ongoing debate about illegal immigration and public safety. Critics argue that more needs to be done to prevent individuals with criminal backgrounds from remaining in the country. Rivas-Sagastume is currently being held without bond, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed a detainer on him as the legal process continues.
