Authorities allege child pornography suspect filmed himself abusing a dog.

A 26-year-old man from Sonoma County has been arrested on multiple serious charges, including animal cruelty and sexual assault. Jeremiah Ortega was first taken into custody on April 3 for allegedly possessing child pornography. After his release, detectives found disturbing videos on his phone showing him sexually assaulting a small dog.

Just two days after his initial arrest, Ortega was rearrested in Santa Rosa. The new charges against him include animal cruelty, sexual assault of an animal, and violations of his probation. Authorities have not provided any updates on the condition of the dog, which has been taken to Sonoma County Animal Services for care and examination.

Ortega is facing a total of seven felony charges. These include one count of animal cruelty, two counts of lewd acts with a child using force, three counts of lewd acts on a child, and one count of possession of child pornography. He was arraigned on Friday and is scheduled to enter a plea on May 2. Initially, his bail was set at $27,000 but has since been raised to $77,000 due to the new charges. He remains in custody at the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility.

This is not Ortega’s first brush with the law. He was previously arrested for drunk driving in May 2022 and later pleaded no contest to charges of driving under the influence. In 2023, he also pleaded no contest to three counts of petty theft and was sentenced to 30 days in jail along with a year of probation.

The disturbing nature of Ortega’s alleged actions has raised significant concern within the community, as authorities continue their investigation into the case.
