Anaheim Police Fatally Shoot Driver Following High-Speed Chase and Crash in Orange County

Anaheim police shot and killed a man late Wednesday night after a high-speed chase that ended in a dramatic crash on a bridge. The incident began around 7:45 p.m. when officers responded to a shooting at a motel on North Brookhurst Street. The victim of that shooting was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition.

The suspect, who allegedly fled the scene, led police on a wild pursuit. During the chase, he ran through red lights, collided with other vehicles, and even lost a tire, as shown in footage from a news helicopter. The chase covered several miles, primarily along the 91 Freeway, before moving onto surface streets.

After nearly an hour, the pursuit ended near West Memory Lane and North Bristol Street, about eight miles from where it started. Police executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver, which involved hitting the side of the suspect’s truck to force it into a guardrail. The truck then bounced back into the road and hit a bridge divider, coming to a stop.

As smoke billowed from the vehicle, officers surrounded it. At 8:38 p.m., police opened fire, and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the truck surrendered to police and was taken into custody. The identities of both the suspect and the shooting victim have not been released.

The incident has raised questions about police tactics and the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are expected to provide more information as it becomes available.
