A TikTok video filled with expletives and racial slurs has played a crucial role in solving the murder of a Cerritos man. The video, filmed outside a Panera Bread in Cypress, helped authorities arrest two suspects linked to the death of 66-year-old Cuauhtemoc Garcia.
The video was uploaded by a user known as “Leti T.” It shows her and a friend being verbally attacked by a man and woman. After the video gained attention, it was taken down but has since been shared across various accounts on TikTok. “Leti T” expressed her relief that the video contributed to bringing justice for Garcia’s family.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced the charges against the suspects, identified as siblings John Chong Moon, 54, and Cindy Kim, 58. They were charged with murder and attempted robbery in connection with Garcia’s death, which occurred on February 25. Prosecutors say Garcia was shot after he refused to hand over his car keys when the siblings allegedly attempted to steal his vehicle while he was out for a walk along the Coyote Creek bike path.
Hochman described the incident as a "senseless and brutal act of violence" that took the life of a man who simply wanted to enjoy a peaceful walk. He extended his sympathies to Garcia’s family, promising to seek justice to the fullest extent of the law.
The suspects were arrested on Monday and were scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday, but that hearing has been postponed. If convicted, they could face life in prison. The community is left shaken by this tragic event, and many are reflecting on the impact of the video that helped crack the case.
